Blue Eye, Missouri

Welcome to Blue Eye......Home of the Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs

  Blue Eye High School

This town is all about its school.  Mr J.D. Settles, a longtime teacher and civic leader, is justifiably proud of the school and the "room galore" that it offers its students.

Spacious facilities and plenty of recreational and sports facilities encourage Blue Eye students to make the most of their educational experiences.

Blue Eye students have recently shown their excellence with statewide rankings in family and consumer science, art, music and language

At graduation in mid-May $480,000 in scholarships was offered to the 60 graduates.

There are at least three versions of how Blue Eye got its distinctive name.

Some say it was the site of a trading post, where local Indians came to swap items with the proprietor, who had steely blue eyes.

Another tale has it that the first postmaster, Elbert Butler, had one brown eye and one blue eye - thus the town's name.

Or maybe it was one of his five daughters who had the blue eyes.

Somewhere within those versions lies the truth.

There are two Blue Eyes....one in Missouri  with about 129 residents.

And one in Arkansas, a tiny burg with one church, no businesses and 36 residents.

State Line Street divides the two Blue Eyes.  Every year in September there's a Blue Eye town reunion where both Blue Eyes come together in the town square to celebrate the town's history with a parade, lots of food and story swapping.  The town square is on the Arkansas side.
